Project Overview
Teachers across China face high levels of stress, yet access to mental health support remains limited, particularly in rural schools with limited resources. These challenges not only affect educators’ well-being, but also shape the learning environments they create for students. To address this gap, REAP is adapting Problem Management Plus (PM+), a low-cost intervention developed by the World Health Organization, for the Chinese educational context, and combining it with mindfulness training.
This integrated program, PM+M, is designed to help teachers manage stress, build emotional resilience, and develop practical strategies for supporting student mental health. We are training a new cohort of instructors and delivering PM+M to educators in rural China as part of a large-scale randomized trial to evaluate the program’s impact and—if the program is effective—generate evidence for broader adoption.
